What began as a project of Larry Page and Sergey Brin – at the time students in Stanford University’s Ph.D. program – grew to become the most influencial company on the web: Google.
Initially aimed to be an efficient search engine – which remained Google’s core purpose also today – the company difersified in offering all kind of other web services and is also expanding offline, by entering other core businesses and with Google Energy even showing ambitions in becoming a player on the energy market. “We believe being green makes business sense” – says Google, and with significant investments in clean energy research and development projects, Google stands a good chance to become your future green energy provider.
A variation of the word “googol” (a mathematical term for a one followed by 100 zeros), the name Google seems indeed like the perfect choice of name turned into reality. Not only in association with the company’s core business – of processing billions of data bytes – but also as a hint to Google’s real market value.
